Teen Mindfulness
A Day Retreat
Join us on March 1st from 10-4:30!
We will focus on Mindfulness to relieve anxiety, provide clarity, and build self-confidence.
Mindfulness practices benefit people of all ages. For teens, this form of compassion for themselves and the world can make all the difference in an often challenging stage of life. Mindfulness relieves anxiety, provides clarity, and gives us a sense of confidence in ourselves. It also tunes us into other people and increases empathy. Mindfulness and meditation are skills that require practice to develop yet require no special ability.
Throughout the day, together, we will focus on developing mindfulness techniques through exercises that concentrate on our whole being. Activities include meditation, yoga, communication development, cooking together, mindfulness practices, journaling, self-attunement practices, and more. We will enjoy an outdoor fire, connect through sharing a meal, have time for socializing, and have opportunities to rest.
Schedule for the day
10 AM: Arrive, settle in, and enjoy some community and communication-building exercises. This time will be a gentle introduction to each other and the day ahead.
11 AM: Session 1 - Mindfulness, what is it, and how can we implement it into our daily lives? We will discuss tools and practices to help support our individual mindfulness practice.
12 PM: Lunch—We will prepare a meal together and share the practice of slowing down. Cooking and slowing down together is a beautiful and important ritual because it promotes better digestion, increases feelings of fullness, fosters social connection, allows for mindful eating, and can even contribute to healthier food choices by enabling us to savor the flavors of the meal!
1 PM: Session 2 - We will have a gentle yoga and stretching session to bring us into our bodies. Gentle yoga can be beneficial for teens because it helps them manage stress, improve their mental focus, and develop body awareness.
2 PM: Recreation—We will venture outside (weather permitting) and take our journals with us to spend some time in nature and quiet reflection.
3:30 PM: Session 3—Closing—At this time, we will build a small fire outside and have an opportunity to connect in a circle before the day retreat ends. Fire gazing unlocks a surprising array of psychological benefits, making it a simple and powerful tool for relaxation and focus. It can enhance well-being while reducing stress and anxiety.
4:30 PM: Our time together has come to an end! Until next time!
A mindfulness day retreat can be a transformative experience for several reasons:
1. Stress Reduction and Mental Clarity
Mindfulness retreats provide a break from academic and social pressures. Youth can learn techniques to reduce stress, improve focus, and cultivate mental clarity.
2. Building Emotional Intelligence
Participants gain tools to manage emotions, enhance self-awareness, and develop empathy toward others. These are valuable life skills for navigating relationships and challenges.
3. Digital Detox
With the constant use of technology, retreats encourage youth to unplug, fostering a deeper connection with themselves and the world around them.
4. Connection to Nature
Spending time outside is healing in many ways! Time in nature can help youth reset mentally, physically, and emotionally.
5. Community and Social Skills
Day retreats can provide a supportive space for young people to bond over shared experiences, building friendships that often last beyond the retreat.
6. Practical Tools for Daily Life
Mindfulness practices taught during retreats—such as breathing exercises, meditation, and gratitude journaling—are tools youth can take home and apply in everyday life.
7. Increased Self-Confidence and Self-Compassion
By focusing on self-reflection without judgment, participants often leave with greater self-acceptance and resilience.
